His mother sat with him through all of it — watching her soldier dying on that table, not turning away, love pouring out of her like something she could not contain and would not stop even if she could.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFive years later, in 2020, he painted a woman bold in pink on white — eyes closed, hair loose and free the way water moves, paint dripping downward like everything releasing at once. Forty-eight inches wide, sixty inches tall. Big enough to fill a room the way she filled his when he was dying.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eHe finished it, stepped back, and something in him said: \u003cem\u003ethat is her.\u003c\/em\u003e The woman who birthed him... watched him die and loved him back to life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eShe did not know she was in the painting. He did not know he was putting her there. That is the truest thing he has ever made.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAMOR DE FLOR\u003c\/strong\u003e means Love of the Flower.
